• Harrogate-based motor dealer Appleyard Group has purchased Scania dealer Union Trucks for 21.05 million in cash. Union holds the Scania trucks franchise for North Eastern England, with dealerships in Newcastle, Darlington and Thirsk, and the deal makes Appleyard the leading seller of Scania trucks in Britain.
• Mitchell Cotts has dropped its opposition to a £77 million takeover by industrial conglomerate Suter, which is managed by former Austin Rover director David Abel.
The acceptance of the Suter offer follows a fiveweek battle by Mitchell Cotts directors to maintain the independence of the company. It is expected that Mitchall Cotts distribution interests will not be radically affected by the Suter purchase.
• Express parcels company City Link has made its first vehicle acquisition under a two-year contract hire deal. The agreement, with Trimoco Vehicle Leasing, covers three diesel-powered Ford Transit panel vans, fitted with two-way radios and liveried in City Link colours, Trimoco has also arranged to provide maintenance.
