Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• SP Tyres (UK) has added a new Dunlop drive axle tyre — the SP431 — to its heavy thick radial tyre range, which the company claims offers a 45% longer life.

The SP431 drive axle tyre replaces the SP411 model and has a tread depth of 21.5nun. It incorporates an extra protective breaker ply, which is not part of the tyre casing structure, that can be removed, if damaged, when retreading.

Other tyres new to the range are the SP321 and SP331 all-axle tyres, the SP811 on/off road all-axle tyre and the SP911 drive axle tyre, which is designed to withstand severe off-road conditions.

The SP321 has a dualchannel tread to help keep its grip in the wet, while the SP331 has a low-profile (80 or 70% aspect ratio) which SP Tyres' claims gives improved fuel consumption and handling.

The SP811 can be used on short haul road operations as well as off-road conditions such as quarries and building sites. Its new tread compound is said to be more resistant to cutting and chipping, while its tapered grooves should avoid stone trapping.

The SP911 tyre is intended for use on the drive axles of off-road trucks and features a new tread compound and improved structural integrity.

LI SP Tyres has developed a tread pattern which it claims substantially reduces vehicle spray. The company says that the new tread has no effect on the tyres' durability and grip.

According to the company, tests with conventional tyres show that spray is frequently thrown over the top of a dropsided body, whereas the new tyre tread keeps water to the height of the wheel arch.

The low-spray tread, however, is on a hand-cut prototype, and it could be three years before the design becomes generally available. • Allied Breweries' Ind Coope Burton Brewery is switching from rigid platform drays to open and curtainsided urban artics for its 16-tonne delivery fleet.

hid Coope has ordered 30 air-suspended semitrailers from Craven Tasker, Don-Bur and Southfields, which will be pulled by Iveco Ford 0913 Cargo tractive units modified by Leighton Buzzard-based Chassis Developments.

The first three trailers to be delivered have been completed by Southfields. They have Dunlop Urban Flexolink air suspension to give an improved ride.

Ind Coope Burton Brewery has adopted the three axle configuration as it provides good axle weight margins on diminishing loads. The single axle trailers have a 3,225kg unladen weight, which with the Cargo tractive unit, gives a 9,425kg payload.
