Bedford admitted that it is exploring the possibility of building Suzuki's 5 cwt microvan at Luton, as it would fill another gap in the Bedford range, and General Motors has held a five per cent stake in Suzuki since 1981. No final decision has been taken.

SCAMMELL MOTORS' new E2m vehicle assembly plant at TolIpits Lane, Watford was officially opened on Tuesday by Prince Michael of Kent, president of the Institute of the Motor Industry.

The new plant, which is capable of producing up to 50 specialist vehicles per week on a single shift basis, was funded in part by the sale of its Moor Park, Watford site and by equipping the plant with refurbished assembly equipment.
