AN INDEPENDENT review of the means and methods of calculating road track costs for heavy goods vehicles has been ruled out by Transport Under Secretary Lynda Chalker.

Mrs Chalker told backbench Tory MP John Spence that the method used to calculate road track costs had been indorsed in the Armitage Inquiry into lorries, people and the environment.

The Road Haulage Association said this week that it was still awaiting the Department of Transport's consultation document on track cost allocation. It wants a more equitable system of excise duty.

AGREEMENT has been reached between Renault Vehicules Industrials and Automobiles Peugeot for RVI to increase its share in Karrier Motors to 90 per cent.

In April 1981 RVI took a 50 per cent stake in Karrier with total management control vested in the Renault Group.

Laurent Brisset, chairman and managing director of Karrier, would make no comment as to the size of the latest investment. However, it is known that it took £7m to reach the 50 per cent in 1981.
