• Commenting on the Greater London Council's proposal to charge full fares for children under 14 on London buses, Mr Eric Lubbock, president of the London Liberal Party, stated: "We strongly condemn this vicious attack on the living standards of Landon families by the Tories in County Hall. At "a stroke this will greatly increase the burden already carried by the people of London following a disastrous year of Conservatives in action.
"We call on parents to deluge their representatives on the GLC with letters of protest against this scheme and we are writing to every Liberal Association throughout Greater London urging them to mount a campaign through meetings, letters to local newspapers, and lobbying of GLC Councillors."
