Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE manager of the Ipswich branch of Pickfords Ltd. said at Ipswich on Monday that his trading figures for furniture removals for the quarter ending in June were "almost alarming."

He was Mr. Richard Steed, who said that the financial squeeze on mortgages had meant that fewer people were moving house and, as a result, there had been a drop in trade in furniture removals.

He was one of 14 objectors to an application by Ipswich Delivery Service Ltd. at a resumed hearing. (See The Commercial Motor, June 18.) A decision was reserved.

Ipswich Delivery Service was applying for an A licence to operate four vans to carry general cargo within 25 miles and also for a similar licence to carry general cargo, including household removals, throughout Great Britain.

Another objector, Mr. George Payne, a commercial representative of BRS (Parcels) Ltd. in Ipswich, said his company had 37 vehicles on its strength in the town, and at times 40 per cent of them were unused.
