to C-licence holders, and the stipulation of a weekly, rather than a daily, number of hours, were among the claims made by delegates at the annual conference of the National Federation of Grocers and Provision Dealers, at Eastbourne, last

week. Mr. Herman Kent, M.B.E., secretary of the Federation, is chairman of the Associated Committee of C-licence Holders.

The Parliamentary Committee of the Federation submitted a report in which it contended that there was no case for the regulation of wages and conditions of distributive-trade drivers by a National Board, but that, if necessary, the question should be dealt with in conjunction with that of wages, hours and conditions of employees in the distributive trade generally.

In the same report, the committee gave support to the B.R.F. protest to the Chancellor of the Exchequer against the special taxation of motor vehicles being appropriated for general purposes. It also decided on a contribution of £100 to the B.R.F. funds.

The committee urged the Minister of Transport that, in the imposition of car-parking regulations, provision should be made for allowing reasonable time for the delivery and collection of goods at shops, and for reasonable time for customers to make purchases.

The Gloucester Association moved a resolution protesting generally against the regulations imposed on C-licence drivers, as being a hardship on traders.

Mr. Alexander (London) thought that special provision should be made In the regulations for the grocers' two very busy days each week, and that the work on the other days should be " compensated " accordingly.

The matter was referred back to the Parliamentary Committee of the Federation.
