An allegation of leakage of information from traffic courts to the canvassing departments of the railway companies was made, last week, at a Manchester inquiry, by Mr. H. Backhouse, solicitor to the C.M.U.A. He stated that in a case now under api cal, which was heard at Blackburn, all the applicants' customers who were mentioned had next day been canvassed on behalf of the railways.
,Denial was at once forthcoming on behalf of the " acCused," but Sir William Hart,,North-Western Deputy Licensing Authonty, took the matter seriously and suggested that a con, sidered reply should be given, together with an assurance, such as had been 'given by the L.N.E. Railway Co. in the Yorkshire area.
Mr. P. Kershaw, counsel for the L.M.S. Railway Co., concurred, and next day sought permission to call Mr, James Hollingsworth as a witness on behalf of the L.M.S. to deny that, although a -note was taken of the proceedings, any of the information disclosed there was available to the canvassing departments_ I-le agreed with Sir William that such a practice as was alleged was reprehensible.
There are expected to be further rounds in this fight.

A B.R.F. Committee Revivified.
There are many matters of legislation, contemplated and actual, and particular problems which are not so much the concern of the British Road Federation as a whole as of certain of its members. The Operators Committee was formed to deal with this situation, but its most recent meeting was in April, 1936. Now, we hear, it is to become far more active and it is gratifying to learn that it will hold a meeting next Monday.
