A NEW CROSS-COUNTRY SERVICE.

The Opening-up of a Route which Connects West Hartlepool and Blackpool.

ANEW long-distance service by motor coach which is unique in that it links up east and west coasts bya direct cross-country route, is that between West Hartlepool on the northeast and Blackpool on the north-west. It has 'been established by Messrs. Wilkinson's Motor Services, of Sedgefield, who have been established in the heart of Durham County for many years, a fact which should result in much support for their new venture being obtained from local patrons. The vehicles to be used on this coastto-coast run are Gilfords, the chassis having a 16 -ft. 6 in. wheelbase and a normal form' of driving position. The bodies have been built by Duble Bodies and Motors, Ltd. and the vehicles were supplied through that well-known coaching specialist, Mr. G. W. Forster, 10, Grange Road, Darlington.

The service from West Hartlepool is by way of Spennymoor, Bishop• Auckland, Barnard Castle; Kirkby Stephen and Lancaster, and in each of these centres, as well as in certain others, booking agents have been appointed. In both directions a halt is made at Kirkby Stephen in order that passengers may obtain refreshments.

The service enables convenient connections to be made with vehicles running to Morecambe, Preston, Liver pool, Manchester, Southport and other

important Lancashire ,districts. The service is being run on Sundays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a vehicle leaves West Hartlepool at 8 a.m.7 returning from Blackpool at 4 p.m. Passengers have the opportunity for returning .at any time, but 48 hours' notice must be given when the holder of a ticket intends to return after, say, three days. In other cases, notice can be given to the.attendant on the _coach. who will reserve seating accommodation. The single fare for the through journey is 10s. 6d., whilst the return ticket costs 18s.
