Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rr here are three rates of toll on the Severn Bridge—motor car, commercial vehicle and heavy commercial vehicle. The Severn Crossing Act states that when a vehicle falls into two categories, then the lower toll shall apply.

The act also states that "motor car" shall be as defined in the Road Traffic Acts.

These acts define a motor car as any motor vehicle constructed to carry passengers or a load and weighing less than three tonnes unladen. I believe that my minivan falls into that category, so why am I charged at the corn mercial vehicle rate? Why is a Ford Transit charged at this commercial vehicle rate?

Why is a Daihatsu 4x4 without windows, charged at the commercial rate, but any Land Rover classed as a motor car?

Considering the experiences of some of Your readers while travelling in France recently, they may like to question the present management of the bridge about the correctness of the tolls being charged.

However, if you can tell me "why"... John Williams, Swansea.
