Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Groeneveld has just introduced a rear obstacle detector called Greensight for rigids, artics and vans.

A sensor module, containing three transmitters and three receivers, is fitted to both rear corners of the vehicle. Using ultrasonics the sensors determine the available space behind the vehicle in three clear zones, up to a maximum distance of three metres away.

This information is displayed in one of two ways. For articulated vehicles colour-coded signal lamps are located on both sides near the rear of the trailer, within range of the outside mirrors.

The illuminated colour and flashing frequency of these lights informs the driver about obstacles behind.

On rigid vehicles an illuminated display panel in the cab has LEDs to warn of obstructions hidden from view. If a moving object is detected but its position cannot be fixed, then an audible warning sounds.

There is a Smart Alarm option which senses the level of noise around the vehicle and automatically increases/decreases the volume of the audible warning lo ensure that it is heard by all pedestrians.

The system is activated when reverse gear is engaged and is automatically tested for correct functioning. All sensors have a self-cleaning action.
