WITH the approval of the W M. of W,T„ the Hauliers' National Traffic Pool, constituted as part of the Government road-haulage scheme', announces certain appointments, to some of which reference has already been made in this journal.

The general manager and secretary is Mr. R. W. Sewill, and those in the list appended have been appointed chairmen of local management committees of the Traffic Pool. Each committee is linked with an area or subarea office of the M. of .W.T. road haulage branch, and is responsible to the Pool for the area or sub-area dealt with by that office.

COUNCILLOR CHARNLEY (chairman) and COUNCILLOR SnannEs (vice-chairman) have been appointed by Blackburn Transport Committee to serve on an ' advisory, committee representing Blackburn, Accrington and Darwen Corporation transport undertakings, set up to deal with war problems.

MR. H. H. HIIMPIIREtS retired from the position of managing director of Ferodo, Ltd.; on December 31 last, After the 1914-18 war he left the Tank Corps with the rank of major, and in 1920 joined Turner Bros. Asbestos Co., Ltd., Rochdale, as export manager.He transferrtd to Ferodo, Ltd., in 1927, becoming senior director in 1928 and managing director in 1938. At Christmas, prior to his retirement, Mr. Humphreys received presentations from the employees, depot managers and the executives of Ferodo, Ltd.

SUPPORT FOR DEFENCE LINES AND FUTURE LEGISLATION

OPERATORS from all the South Wales counties attended a meeting at Cardiff, last week, to hear the Government road haulage scheme explained by Major G. A. Renwick, chairman of the Road Haulage (Operations) Advisory Committee, and members of the committee. Mr. H. Trevor Morgan, K.C., Regional Transport Commissioner, presided.

Major Renwick declared that once' more the transport industry was passing through a period of apprehension and difficulty, hut it was only a grave national crisis that had compelled the Government to launch the present scheme. He appealed to South Wales operators to throw every available vehicle into the defence lines, because future legislation would be measured

by the response. It was imperative for the country's safety that lines of transport should be maintained, and, by making their vehicles available, roadtransport operators would be giving great help to the war effort ALBION DIVIDEND PAYMENT I N respect of the year ended December 31, 1940, the directors of Albion Motors," Ltd., are recommending the payment -of a final dividend on the ordinary shares of 5 per cent. wpm much regret we learn of the W death, on December 26, of Mr. E. W. Garnon, general secretary of the Motor Agents' Association, the Motor Trade Association, and the Petrol Retailers' Association, and founder and secretary of the Institute of the Motor Trade Mr. Garnon was born in 1875. He was the first secretary of the South Wales Division of the A.S.L. (later the M.A.A.) in 1907, and was appointed Metropolitan secretary and headquarters organizing secretary of the M.A.A. in 1916.

ANTI-'FLU TREATMENT FOR ■ . TRANSPORT WORKERS

AN experiment is being carried out in Glasgow for immunizing workers in the corporation transport department from influenza. This winter, the scheme is being carried out on a limited scale. to measure its effects. Volunteers from the employees at the Larkfield bus garage and the head office of the department have been invited to submit themselves for treatment, and. about 50 per cent. of the employees approached have responded.

"If the experiment works out as the medical officers expect it will, the precaution may, in the future, be applied on a general scale to employees of the

department. It is believed that immunization would reduce greatly the incidence of sickness among the staff.
