Corn mercia I Ve hiclesand Siemens VDO are in the final stages of trialling a lightweight generator that they claim could revolutionise reefer power systems.

After 18 months' work.Siemens has completed a prototype for a Renault Midlum. It works via a belt-driven generator and takes its power from the main vehicle engine.

The electronics manufacturer says it is lighter and greener than conventional systems and will need less servicing.
