• Reader response to the CM/Scania CD offer has been phenomenal and we're in the process of sending out CDs to the first 250 who got their applications for the free CD into our offices. However, due to the large number of replies, Scania has kindly given us another 100 CDs. These will allocated according to the date/time stamp on the envelope of each entrant arriving at the CM offices after the first 250 applications were received.
• Royal Mail and Parcelforce are not expected to win any significant commercial freedom until after the next General Election, despite calls last week by Post Office management to
be allowed to "develop a culture of enterprise". Sources close to the Government predict that after his privatisation defeat, Industry Secretary Michael Heseltine may offer a small number of "cosdess and harmless {commercial freedom) gestures" to the Post Office.
The Tory election manifesto is likely to include a commitment to sell the Post Office and to liberalise the letters market—Labour wants to give the Post Office more freedom while keeping it under public ownership.
