COPENHAGEN Transport, the United Transport subsidiary dedicated to Carlsberg UK's distribution, has developed a tipping system to take advantage of back-load traffic.
It has imported a Peerless hydraulic lifting frame from the United States so that semitrailers many be tilted to 45 degrees to discharge grain.
It has developed double-skin curtain-sided semi-trailers which carry palletised goods in one direction and bulk grain in the other.
After tests with a prototype sem-trailer and feasiblity studies showed savings of over £500,000 per unit over the life of a trailer, every curtain-sided vehicle in the fleet will now be built for this dual purpose.
