SMITHS Transport Services (Gatwick), its transport manager and six drivers, face trial at Chichester Crown Court, West Sussex, later this year.

The company, its transport manager David Benjamin Smith of Crawley, and drivers David Thomas, John Percy Pelling, Mark Nicholas Jones, and Kenneth Jack Bowen (all of Crawley), Kenneth Roger Wickens of Reigate, and Colin James Teuten of Charlwood, Surrey, all plead not guilty to charges of making 142 entries on a record sheet while knowing them to be false (CM, August 11, 1984).

No date has yet been fixed for the trial which is expected to last for five days,
