'RENT Motor Traction Co Ltd has been thwarted in its attempt o transfer several stage carriage services from the Mount ■ treet Bus Station to the Victoria Bus Station in Nottingham CM, November 30, 1979). Deriment to the minority would mly result if Victoria become :ongested in any event. Bus services were provided for the convenience of passengers and not to utilise unsuitable facilities.

Although it was clear that traffic congestion in the city centre could be handled effectively by the computerised Urban Traffic Control Centre, the Commissioners had reservations about the routeing of additional services across the city centre. Evidence established that Victoria was already heavily congested at peak times, and would be unable to cope with an additional 78,000 departures contemplated each year.

Finally, the Commissioners said that by not allowing an operator to use the facilities at the bus station under its management, the Corporation could effectively preclude the Commissioners from authorising services involving such use.

In the present case, the City Council had indicated that permission would be refused.
