Cordon blues?
THE joint appeal by roa transport interests against ti Windsor Cordon is to be heal on June 3, but the Transpo Minister has rejected a call fi a public inquiry.
Master of the Rolls Loi Denning is to hear the appe by the Freight Transpo Association, the Road Haulag Association, and the Nation Farmers' Union.
But Transport Ministl Norman Fowler has turn€ down the request by the RH and FTA that he should use h powers under the 1967 Ror Traffic Regulations Act I hold a public inquiry and er 'the ban (CM, December 1979).
He says that local autho ities must take amenities ar traffic needs into accout when making traffic order and adds that the Armit4 Inquiry is expected to consid( such issues in the course of i. hearings.
It is felt by some that tl impending appeal has also li fluenced Mr Fowler's decisioi especially as the Goverr ment's fingers have been burr already by Lord Denning's di librations over industrial rek tions law.
