Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MEMBERS of owner-drivers associations in the South are to ahead with plans for a new central organisation to coyl associations in the area following a meeting at the weekend.

And they are to hold another meeting to elect a committee for the new organisation — as yet unnamed — and to decide on its policy.

But it is certain that the southern drivers will be looking to push into the West and set up a new association in the Bristol area — a region already marked down for a new membership offensive by the British Association of Owner Drivers.

A spokesman for the new organisation told CM this week that it would be seeking link with the Road Haulage. Association, immediately, similar to that negotiated between BAOD and the RHA before the disastrous BAOD conference in Coventry which put paid to all ideas of the main body linking with RHA.

The spokesman said that the new association was being formed "because of the lack of competence shown by BAOD officers."

He added: "Problems in other areas of the BAUD have brought the association to its knees and we hope to off benefits to drivers that wou have been offered under t1 old leadership."

Meanwhile news of a ne breakaway association in t1 Hull area has leaked out. I least two members of th North Humberside Own( Drivers Association at known to be recruiting drivel for a new association to t based in Goole.

But this week BAO spokesman Dave Leachma told CM that a meeting of th executive of the associatio had been "a bit of a flop" at th weekend.

He said that plans for th Bristol area were going ahea and BAOD plans included th funding of a new freight offic for the area, had been laid t offer a service to driver's befor they became members of th new association.

And a meeting of th managers of the freight office run by the associations is to g ahead on March 11 at th Coventry Eurocrest Hotel.
