Jack Ashwell, commercial roac transport national secretary ot the Transport and Genera Workers' Union, should be awarded the DDT — the Diploma in Double Talk. With out a flicker of a smile he defended Texaco strikers whc were interfering in the affairs oi other oil companies and holding the public to ransom, with the statement that they were entitled to their own views.
Does his tolerance extend tc those who do not want to join a union or to unionists who do not wish to strike? In short, does he believe in the closed shop or in the sanctity of individual opinion and liberty? He can't have it both ways.
If DDT happens also to be a substance for exterminating pests, blame the chemical industry:not me
