Vorld Truck Series, by Pat ;ennett, is published by 'atrick Stephens, price 2.95.
HE FIRST two books in the Vorld Trucks series cover the istory of ERF and Scania resectively. The origins of both iarques have been extensively ?searched with a great many xcellent photographs — partiularly in the case of Scanta.
One interesting item in the :RF history is a 1933 costing 1st used for arriving at the hassis price. How about £12 for a steering box or -even better — £3.11s.6d for a pair of front springs? The steamversus-oil argument which led to the departure of Edwin Richard and Dennis from Fodens is delicately reported.
My particular favourite amongst the brilliant Scania collection of photographs is the one used inside the front cover. This depicts a Vabis truck of 1908 with a test load consisting of 41 of the men who built it! Other favourites include a bus built for the post office with tracks at the rear and skis at the front, and a type B Scania car with a goods-carrying compartment which could be replaced by seats at weekends.
The next two books in the World Truck series recently announced' cover Seddon Atkin son and MAN. G.S.M.

THE DEVELOPMENT of an East Anglian bus and coach operator from its first venture into taxi work to its present day activities with 14 vehicles is illustrated in this 40-page illustrated history.
It examines the company's network of rural stage carriage services, and its commitment to express routes and excursions and tours.
The book ends almost with an appeal to rescue the firm, as the proprietors are all over retirement age and wish to find a new private enterprise owner for the business.
