THE FIRST STAGE of a sixyear improvement programme for the A75 Gretna-Stranraer road opened this week when the Newton Stewart bypass was opened.
The £1.5m section will help ease pressure on the muchcriticised Euroroute, which is used by heavy lorries travelling to and from the Ulster ferries at Stranraer and Cairnryan.
£,18m has been allocated for further improvements, including bypasses at Creetown, Annan, Glenluce, Gatehouse of Fleet, and Castle Douglas.
