Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As garage manager of a reasonably large fleet of commercial vehicles, I am writing to ask if you can bring any pressure to bear on garages who list themselves for 24 hr. breakdown service facilities.

On December 12 one of our vehicles, a Dodge (AEC engined) articulated vehicle blew a top hose on the North Circular Road and between 2.30 p.m. and 5130 p.m. our driver rang eleven different garages, some two and three times, and not one would go out to help. Each one claimed that they either had not got staff or the break-down wagon was out—which is ludicrous because you can deliver a top hose on a push bike!

The driver rang every garage listed in your 24 hour emergency service and all but one of those listed in the Dodge service and sales handbook without success.

The vehicle was fully laden and apart from the inconvenience to us, the hazard it caused on an already highly congested road can be imagined. Eventually, another of our vehicles caught up with him and pulled the vehicle off the North Circular into a side road where it was left all night, after notifying the police. K. W.
