LONDON-JERSEY AIR LINE STARTED.

As from Sunday last the PortsmouthJersey air line of Jersey Airways, Ltd., has been extended to Heston Airport. The company has now a London office at 17-18, Cockspur Street (Whitehall 3640). A car conveys passengers from this office at 9.45 a.m, daily to Heston, whence the aeroplane departs at 10,55 a.m., arriving at Jersey at 12.55 p.m. The return flight starts at 2 p.m., Heston is reached at 4 p.m. and a car conveys passengers to the London office. The fares . are £2 19s. 6d. single, £4 19s. 6d. return. Tickets for the London-Jersey and Portsmouth-Jersey ffights may be obtained through all principal, booking agents throughout the country.

Bristol-Cardiff Programme in Preparation.

Norman Edgar Western Airways, Ltd., Whitchurch Aeiodroime,. Bristol, is at present formulating plans for the 1934 season, and we hope to announce these very shortly now.

Paper on Aero Engine Design.

At the next general meeting of the Institution of Automobile Engineers, to be held on February 6, at the Royal Society of Arts, John Street, London, W.C.2, at 7.45 p.m., Capt. G. S. Wilkinson, of D. Napier and Sons, Ltd., will read...a paper entitled " Aero Engine Design."

Municipal Movement.

Tynemouth Corporation is neg.-Rating for an aerodrome site of 145 acres 1335

to the south of Rake House Lane. Bexhill Corporation has arranged a meeting with representatives of the Eastbourne authority to discuss the aerodrome problem. Newbury Corporation has raised the matter with the regional planning committee.

K.L.M. Amsterdam-Manchester Plans, The KL.M. officials who flew last week to Hull and Manchester found

that numerous improvements to the Manchester (Barton) aerodrome would be necessary to give satisfactory terminal service for a regular air line from Amsterdam. However, it is probable that at least an experimental extension to Manchester will be made when the Amsterdam-Hull line is started, probably on June 1. Mr. John C. Sword and his chief pilot, Squadron-Leader Guy Mallet, had a conference with the K.L.M. officials.

British Material for Turkey.

Cellou, Ltd., Kingston-on-Thames, has shipped 45 tons of dope for aeroplane fabric to the Turkish Government. This big order has been obtained against foreign competition, which hitherto has usually succeeded. PROBABLE LONDON-BELFAST TIMES.

It is expected that the proposed London-Belfast air line of Midland and Scottish Air Ferries, Ltd., Renfrew (referred to in our issue dated January 12), will be started with two departtures from London daily, at 8.30 a.m. and 6.45 p.m., with calls at Birmingham, Liverpool and the Isle of Man. The overall time will probably be about 3 hrs. Connections will be made at London with the Continental air lines, and at Belfast with the company's

Belfast-Glasgow line. The full programme will shortly be issued.

Forthcoming Airspeed Deliveries.

Airspeed, Ltd., Portsmouth, states that the Airspeed Courier ordered by Commercial Airways (Essex), Ltd., Loughton Aerodrome, Abridge, is to be delivered about two weeks hence, and the Courier for London, Scottish and Provincial • Airways,. Ltd., 52. Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1, will be ready shortly after that. Both these companies, as recently announced in The Commercial Motor, have plans for London-Scottish air services. Inquiries for the Airspeed AS6 twinengined type are coming in from various parts of the world.

Improvements at Cardiff.

A fully equipped Customs House has been provided at the Cardiff Airport, the building having recently been completed. Continual development is taking place at the aerodrome. Recent works have included the making of n. new approach to the hangar from Whitaker Road. A new car park for 200 vehicles is being constructed:

The landing ground is at present 60 acres in extent, but another 20 acres will be added in a few weeks' time. Drainage work of this additional land is well advanced.

Blackpool and West Coast Programme.

Blackpool and West Coast Air Services, Ltd., Squires Gate Aerodrome, Blackpool, advises that it is intended this year to operate services to the Isle of Man from Liverpool and from Blackpool, as were run last summer, as well as between Blackpool and Liverpool. From Easter to the end of June there will probably be one departure daily on each route, the full services coming into operation as from July.

Hillman's Traffic.

The Romford-Paris air service of Hillman's Airways, Ltd., was maintained daily throughout the had weather of the week ended January 26, and 29 single-journey passengers were carried.
