THREE SMALL hauliers entered liquidation in the second half of November, with I IM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) the biggest creditor in each case.

The most recent casualty is Batley, West Yorks-based A One 'transport (Leeds), with Peter O'Hara of O'Hara &. Co appointed as liquidator on 24 November.

The company, which ran two trucks, made three redundancies, according to a spokesman for O'Hara & Co. He says: "HMRC was one of the biggest creditors and the firm could not keep up with its debts. The business leaves a deficiency of around £60,458."

Meanwhile, a week earlier, Piano Logistics, which operated from depots in Middlesex and Milton Keynes, appointed AJ Clark of Carter Clark as liquidator.

Non-preferential claims totalled £234,028. of which HMRC is listed as the biggest creditor, submitting a claim for £117,157, while trade and expense creditors are owed £105,084. The company has a deficiency of £245,704.

The liquidator would not divulge the main reasons behind the demise of the firm. However, last year, Julian Rout, MD at Piano Logistics, which employed 30 staff, told CM the firm was struggling to compete on cost with cut-price rivals.

Also on 17 November, Huddersfield, West Yorks-based R&B Logistics ceased trading, with Paul Boyle and John Sailabank of Harrisons Business Recovery called in as joint liquidators.

The firm had an 0-licence for three vehicles and three trailers.
