bit of kit. That 3.0-litre engine gives it sparkle both on the rough, where you need decent torque, and the smooth, where it's happy to cruise at high speed without fuss. This is coupled with decent on-road manners that make it a relaxing ride if you have to cover long distances between sites.
On the downside the servicing interval every 9,000 miles is a bit short for a CV and with a load volume of 1.6m' there are more practical load-luggers out there.
But on road or off, the Terrano should keep you moving at a decent pace, and with solid build quality it's not likely to let you down when out in the sticks in the middle of winter.
