II Residents in a Cotswold village are winning their battle to have trucks diverted away from their homes.
A total of 203 villagers from Bourton-on-the-Hill, Gloucestershire, signed a petition urging the council to set up an ''advisory truck route" taking HGVs along the A40 from Oxford and then up the M29 Fosse Way to Stow and the A424 to Trooper's Lodge.
Gloucestershire County Council traffic manager Derek Howell says this will not be a-truck ban; signs would simply advise hauliers on the alternative route.
Villagers argue that the M4 through Bourton-on-theHill is not suitable for trucks as it is on a steep hill and narrows to just 4.76m.
Petition organiser Leslie Badger explains that trucks often have to mount the pavements because of the narrow road.
The council is considering the new route and plans to make its decision before next March.
