• The Scottish Office says it has thrown out plans to give hauliers a right of appeal to an independent body if local authorities impose lorry bans or restrictions (CM 13-19 May).
The move would have brought Scots law into line with England.
• The Road Haulage Association launched an information campaign this week to promote understanding among local authority officers of the needs of the road transport industry.
