Capt. Harold H Balfour, M.C., M.P., Parliamentary Under Secretary of State -for Air, will attend the annual dinner and dance of the College of Aeronautical Engineering and the Automobile Engineering Training College, to be held at Grosvenor House, London, on December 13. A number of important personalities in both the industries which the colleges cover is expected to be present.

The Automobile Training College, Sydney Street, London, S.W.3, is now in its 15th year, and over 100 students are at the moment taking the twoyears' course to pass their mechanical engineering degrees.

Battery Maker Entertains.

Some 200 guests were entertained to dinner and a cabaret show in Birmingham, last week, by Oldham and Sons, Ltd., the battery manufacturer. Speakers were Mr. John Oldham, Mr. W. T. Harrington and Mr. E. P. Everest. The chairman was Mr. S. T. Wrigglesworth, general manager.

Yugoslavia Buys German Vehicles.

During the first half of the current year, 644 motorvans and lorries were imported into Yugoslavia, as contrasted with 369 in the corresponding six months of 1937. It is stated that 85 per cent. came from Germany.

Big Buyers of Bus Bodies.

Amongst important orders for bodies received by Eastern Coach Works, Ltd., Eastern Way, Lowestoft, is one • from Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., for 31 double-deckers and another from the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., for 40 singledeckers. East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., and the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., have also placed big orders with the company for passenger bodies.

We have been asked to point out that the equipment in the Austin 18 h.p. ambulance, shown at the recent Public Health Exhibition at the Royal Agricultural Hall, was an Easilift stretcher, made by Southern Bros., St. Georges Road, Bolton, Lanes, and not of the make mentioned in our report. Nicholls and Co., Lower Broughton, Manchester, when called upon to explain to Sir William Hart (NorthWestern Deputy Licensing Authority), last week, why he wanted five vehicles and • four trailers. He replied that he needed five vehicles and he had to have licences for the trailers because he dragged caravans about the country. In the caravans were goods and chattels. His licence was renewed without further question.
