The fight to abolish tolls on Britain's road network is set to continue despite the Government's announcement last week that it intends to retain tolls.

The RI-IA and the FTA have pledged their opposition to tolls and both organisations are planning to continue to campaign against tolls.

FTA Director of Planning, Richard Turner says, "The Governments decision not to abolish tolls in the face of all the evidence is a real let-down for the over-taxed road user." RHA spokesman, Derek Whitcher, says his Organisation is extremely disappointed by the Government's decision to continue charging tolls in spite of a recommendation to the contrary by the House of Commons Select Committee.

In his announcement on tolls last week Transport Secretary John Moore made one small concession when he said, "My officials are discussing with the Humber Bridge Board possible measures to resolve the problems of the bridge."
