Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TARDY TRANSITS

• Ford has published technical advice for operators who experience a drop in performance of Transits fitted with the 2.5-litre direct-injection diesel engine.

The company says this may be due to an air leak into the fuel system or fuel starvation, and the following steps should be taken: 1) Check for leakage in the high pressure fuel pipes and connections. Leaking connections should be cleaned and retightened to 18-20Nm (13-15 lbft). If this does not cure the problem, replace the fuel pipe.

2) Check for leakage, damage or kinks in the low pressure fuel pipes. Affected pipes should be cleaned and a new sealing ferrule fitted. The connection should be tightened to 9-11Nm (7-8 lbft).

3) if neither of these two steps solves the problem, fit the latest Transit '86 fuel filter which has a larger filtration area and a water/sediment drain tap in the bottom of the filter.
