• A 25 million factory relocation contract, believed to be the largest ever, will shortly be completed by Pickfords Industrial of Chesterfield.
Pickfords has moved more than 6,500 tonnes of machine tool equipment, valued at 250million, to JI Case's tractor plant at Doncaster from Illinois in the States.
A total of 40 trucks have been used for the contract, including Volvo Fl 2s bought especially, together with a number of King semi-trailers. Rod Moysen, divisional director of Pickfords Industrial, says the 25-million contract is roughly 23 million more than the largest previous single contract undertaken by the company.
The move of production equipment from Illinois to Yorkshire is part of the $30 million rationalisation programme being undertaken by JI Case following the company's acquisition of International Harvester's agricultural machinery business in 1984.
