THE DEPARTMENT of Transport has considered the possibility of banning heavy vehicles from the right-hand lane of the M2 south of the River Medway bridge, but has decided that it would prove impracticable because it is only a two-lane carriageway.
Announcing this in the Commons, Junior Transport Minister Kenneth Clarke, added that such a restruction would adversely affect the motorway's capacity over about a mile of its length, would cause frustration on the part of drivers of faster moving heavy vehicles, and could thus increase the risk of accidents.
