Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A RECOMMENDATION has been made by the planning and policy sub-committee of the Chartered Institute of Transport that a directorgeneral should be appointed and an advertisment for this post (salary, not less than £8,000) appears in the July issue of the Institute's journal.

The decision to appoint a director-general follows consideration of ideas put forward by several of the CIT's local sections, with particular emphasis on such matters as organization, public relations, education and research.

The sub-committee also took into account, says the journal, the growing demand for authoritative and unbiased advice in the field of transport and national and local, government levels which a body of well qualified and professional people might be expected to fulfil.

There is also the importance to the C1T of securing a wider recognition by employers of the institute's qualifications, particularly so since the incorporation of the Industrial Transport Association.

It is not intended the honorary officers of the CIT should abrogate their responsibilities because of the new appointment.

The Institute's present chief executive, Arthur Griffiths, has agreed to assume the role of consultant as soon as the new appointment is made and will retire upon reaching the age of 60 in February 1976.

Mr .Griffiths has served with the Institute for 30 years.
