Although specifically designed for the Do-ItYourself market, a new range of hand tools to be introduced by Aven Tools Ltd. will be of interest to anyone concerned with commercialvehicle body repairs. Introduction of the tools coincides with a change of name for the manufacturer: as Hack Saws Ltd, thecompany is well known for its saws and hacksaws for industrial use.
Two entirely new tools in the Aven range are the Trimmatool and the Varisaw. The Trimmatool will trim, shape and form a variety of materials on flat or curved surfaces without clogging. The handle can be positioned so that the tool can be used as a plane or file. It has a flexible blade mounted on an unbreakable nylon holder and a degree of curvature can be introduced through a knurled tensioning nut: a smaller nut is slackened off to allow the position of the handle to be changed. The double-sided blade is of a simile r design to that used in the Aven Filemaster; one side has the form of a "dreadnought file" for removing la rge amounts of material, the other is similar to a rasp for finishing work. The blade is turned over by undoing two countersunk set screws holding it to the holder.
The tapered blade of the Varisaw has casehardened teeth which will cut wood, plastics or sheet metal. Like a hacksaw blade made by the concern, it features a progressive-tooth design. This means the teeth at the tip of the blade are fine for easy starting, increasing to coarser teeth for fast cutting at the end of the stroke.
