Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHEN several heavy pallets are stacked, to remove a lower one means that the weight of all those above it has to be lifted. To eliminate this is the aim of a scheme shown in patent No. 914,402. (P. Barton, II Hintlesham Avenue, Birmingham, 15.)

The pallets are normally stacked in a frame or gantry and this is provided with a lifting mechanism by which the pallets can be slightly raised. This enables those above the required one to be raised enough to permit a fork truck to remove it. The lowest pallet is provided with wheels so that it can be pulled from under the stack.

The lifting may be done electrically, controlled by a sequence of push-buttons, one to each pallet. Once clear, the required pallet may be ejected hydraulically.
