From our Industrial Correspondent LONDON busmen's leaders decided last La week to let the branches vote individually on the L.T.B. offer of a 6s. a week rise for central area drivers and 5s. a week for country drivers. The offer was made in an attempt to overcome the current shortage of drivers but, since other staff outnumber drivers, it seems unlikely that the offer will get a majority vote. The negotiating committee made no recommendation one way or another to the branches, but the latter are not expected to favour an increase in the differential between drivers' and conductors' pay.
At last week's meeting it was argued that this latest "scarcity allowance" was primarily aimed at encouraging more conductors to train as drivers and would not attract drivers from outside.
Voting has been going on this week and the results were expected to be announced at the central bus section's monthly conference yesterday.
