IT was very difficult to stop heavy trucks throwing water from the side of the tyres, admitted Mr. Marples when questioned in the Commons last week about research into rigid mudeuarding.
The Minister said that the Road Research Laboratory had planned a programme and constructed equipment for research into rigid mudguards and the work might continue for some months.
The Laboratory had already built a twin-wheel tanker-type vehicle designed to water the road in front of its wheels so that research could take, place as fast as was consistent with getting results.
