THE TRANSPORT AND GENERAL WORKERS UNION announced the following adjustments to wage rates and conditions on Wednesday. As from August t, 1963, wage rates in the sand and gravel industry have been increased by four per cent, whilst. the rate of overtime for the first two hours is at time and a third and thereafter at time and a half.

Agreement has been reached for supply drivers of T. Wail and Sons (Ice Cream) Ltd. to have their basic rates increased by 10s. a week, operating retrospectively from May 27, 1963. Classifications of vehicles relative to the British readymix concrete industry have been altered to make provision for maximum-weight vehicles, and it has been agreed to arrange wage rates on a two-, threeor four-axle basis. Additionally, agreement has been reached to increase basic rates as set out in appendix B of the agreement by 3d. per hour. These adjustments were made effective from July 1.
