FARE increases on 39 motorbus services and 19 trolleybus services operated by Bradford Corporation have been granted by the Yorkshire Traffic -Commissioners. Besides an increase of about Id. on some stages, a number of children's fares will also go up on Sunday.
Mr. 14, Patten, deputy .town clerk, told the Commissioners that increases in wages. and salaries nad cost the corporation £91,650 a year, whilst higher costs in other directions had sent the total to £120,650. The number of passengers carried was gradually falling. One of the many Guy buses run by China Minor Bus Co.,Ltd., in Hong Kong. The only objectors were Brighouse Corporation. Mr. W. A. Middleham, deputy town clerk, argued that it was not right for children's Id. fares to be doubled, whereas a 6d. fare went up to only 7d. They were not concerned so much with the increases as with the waY in which they would be implemented.
The North Western Traffic Commissioners, in a reserved decision, have granted the application by Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., for increases to bring in a total of £200,000 a year (The Commercial Motor, July 26). In their decision they point out that, having regard to the new wage award, .they think the application should be granted with only a few minor details excepted.
BUTTERFIELD'S INCREASE TANKER SPACE
EXTENDING their factory space for the construction of road tankers, W. '13. Butterfield, Ltd., Shipley, have
erected a new shop, 62 ft. by 300 ft., equipped with a 3-ton overhead electric crane. This is similar to an adjoining shop which was completed for the company in 1954 to house road tanker apparatus.
The first one is to be used for the fabrication and initial testing of tanker bodies, whilst the new shop will house the sheet metal workers, fitters and mounters. The two buildings make the road tank department a self-contained unit for the first time.
ISRAEL MOTOR PLAN
rAA VEHICLE and tractor factory is to be established in the Askelon area of Israel by Koor, the industrial wing of Sold Boneh, the Labour Federation's contracting and industrial combine. The same company will also set up a plant to manufacture motor oils in Haifa.
