Centre Formed ANEW centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers has been set up to cover Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, the Isle of Wight, the Channel Isles, and those parts of Surrey and Kent lying south of a line joining Guildford, . Reigate and Gravesend. Known as the Southern Centre, it will have 160 members.
The Metropolitan Area is to be made up of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire (south of Luton), Hertfordshire (south of Bishop's Stortford). Essex (Thameside), Oxfordshire, Middlesex, London, and those parts of Surrey and Kent lying north of a line joining Guildford. Reigate and Gravesend-,
Full centre status has also been granted to the South Wales group, which was formed in 1950. The annual subscription of ordinary members is to be increased by £1, whilst newly admitted associates and graduates will pay an extra 10s. entrance fee.
LORRY WITH HONEYCOMB BODY
A DROP-SIDED lorry body using
n. -mesh Dufaylite P.F. resinatedpaper honeycomb core, has been built in Holland by C. V. Erven I. Holtslag, Doetinchem.
The material is l in. thick, laminated with aluminium sheets, the outer skin being 0.75 mm. thick and the inner 1 mm. The floor, which is built up of
five plates about in. thick, is of similar construction, except that the upper sheet in this case is 2.5 mm. thick and the lower 1.5 mm.
The weight of the complete body is 782 lb. and it has a normal load capacity of 14,332 lb. Hinges and fastenings are of steel. and all aluminium connections are glued and riveted. The lorry is stated to have been in daily service since January 17, carrying heavy loads and such materials as sand, stone and bricks, without showing signs of deterioration.
