THE earmarking of land near Osseti

Town Hall for a new bus station (The Commercial Motor, June 28) was objected to by two bus companies at a public inquiry at Wakefield, last week. They -declared that the proposal was unnecessary and would be a waste of public money Mr. Arthur Bates, county planning officer, said eight bus routes had stopping points on the road near the town hall. It was considered that a central station on the modest scale envisaged would be far neater than a number of separate stands on the highway.

Mr. W. R. Hargrave, for the West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd., and the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd., said the operators were unable to spend a penny more than was necessary, yet they would have to make some contribution to this scheme. There was no congestion in Ossett, and the land to be taken up by the station could be, more usefully used for the benefit of ratepayers.
