HALF-FARE bus travel for children up to the age of 15 will be discussed at the Trades Union Congress in Blackpool next month. A motion from the Post Office Controlling Officers seeks support for a change in the fare structure of public transport to allow fare concessions to children up to schoolleaving age. This is one of five motions dealing with public ownership which are down for discussion. One of them, from the public employees, criticizes the general council of the T.U.C. for not carrying out their pledges on social ownership. It demands that Congress should call on the council to explain their intentions. Among other motions is a proposal for the nationalization of the machinetool industry, and another one urging that the State should take over the building trade.
RAILWAYS KEEP SOME TRAFFIC

Having regard to the general downward trend of freight trafficlast year, it appeared that some traffic transferred to the railways during fuel rationing had been retained. tIn the four weeks to July 14 last, British Railways' total freight reccipts amounted to I:25.69m., compared with £26.36m. in the corresponding period. of last year.1
