THE decision by the Northern L Licensing Authority not to gram additional A licence vehicles to Siddie C. Cook, Ltd., Consett, Co. Durham, • has been upheld by the Transport Tribunal. They are to give their reasons for dismissing Cook's appeal later, Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw, for Cook's, told the Tribunal that for the past two years they had been unable to cope with the demands a the Consett Iron Co. They needed an additional 10 articulated vehicles and six platform lorries (The Commercial Motor, last week).

Mr. J. L. R. Croft objected lior the British Transport Commission. He said he did not accept that Cook's were pioneers with the Consett works, so there were no grounds of sympathy for the grant. Cook's could get more of the work by applying for contract A licences.

Replying, Mr. Ward law said that the B.T.C. had never claimed to have suitable facilities for the traffic. If a prima facie case had been made out then Cook's were entitled to the grant. There was a firm goodwill between them and the iron company ELECTRONIC REGULATION OF GENERATORS

ANEW transistor regulator, announced by Simms Motor Units, Ltd., Oak Lane, London, N.2, provides for the electronic regulation of lowvoltage generators. In the circuit at present under test, control is maintained over the voltage and current.

A grounded emitter circuit is used with silicon voltage and germanium current reference diodes. Blocking is effected by means of a germanium diode, and an assurance light is connected in circuit which provides a nonlinear resistance in operation.

Supplies of this new regulator are not yet available.

NO LICENCE FOR LILLEY

IN a reserved decision, the North Western Traffic Commissioners have refused the application by Lilley Tours for a new excursion licence from Failsworth (The Commercial Motor, July 19).

The Commissioners say that the fact that Mr. Lilley has three public service vehicles and no road service licence, and the circumstances of his previous sale to Mr. H. Ramsden, are not sufficient grounds for granting a licence, The evidence was unconvincing.
