WHEN BUYING a new tractive unit, operators can show a considerable saving in delivery time if they arrange for all the essential "extras " such as fifth-wheel coupling, rear lights, rear wings, air connections and so on to be fitted by the same people.
One company able to provide such a service to hauliers is Nightingale Engineering Ltd of Balham, London SW. It will undertake to supply and fit all types of fifth-wheel coupling to any make of vehicle, new or secondhand. Fitting takes about three days and prices start at £350.
The price includes turntable, run-up ramps, all electrical and air connections and a choice of plastic, metal or rubber wings.
Another useful service offered by Nightingale is the fitting of Maxaret brake anti-lock systems. Again fitting time is about three days and any make of tractor can be converted, provided it is suitable. Cost varies according to the make of the vehicle, but is in the range of £250-£300.
