A FAST NEW coach service proposed by National Travel (North West) Ltd, between Pwllheli and London Victoria, has been approved by the North Western Traffic Commissioners.
The application was opposed by British Rail but, before the hearing at Colwyn Bay on March 25, agreement was reached.
The application was amended by deleting a proposed pickingup point at Chester; confirming daily operation from the Monday before Easter to October 31 and running on Saturdays and Sundays only during the of the year. The vehicle rest allowance is to come out of existing allowances so that no additional journeys will be permitted to and from London.
Mr Roger Farrell, National Travel licensing officer, said that the aim of the new service wag to bring together existing travel facilities between North Wales and London into one fast direct service, cutting out the necessity for changes at Chester or Cheltenham. There will now be good facilities for holiday traffic to the North Wales Coastal resorts and for the people of North Wales wishing to visit the capital.
Normally the service will terminate at Carnarvon, with through journeys to PwIlheli Butlin's Holiday Camp only on Saturdays throughout the holiday season.
Between Queensfeny and London there will be only one s t o p, at Birmingham. The operation is expected to begin on May 23.
