EXPORTS were nearly two and a half times imports in motor products in February, according to statistics issued by the SMMT this week.

Exports rose to £243.8m in February-26 per cent up on the same period last year, but the picture losses some of its sparkle when it is revealed that imports also rose by 22 per cent to £100.7m.

Commercial vehicle imports were down by 1.3 per cent to £7.4m while exports of commercial vehicles were up to £41.6m —a 37 per cent increase on February 1975.

The balance of motor trading this year so far is £288m in Britain's favour compared with £143m in the black last year.
