United Tyre and Battery Services: A commercial agreement to provide a nation-wide tyre and battery service has been announced by the Kerry's and Normeir tyre distribution group. -This multi-million group now controls distribution points in all major industrial locations.

Moscow Giant: A new giant truck, the ZIL-135, produced by the Likhachev Motor Works in Moscow, is now undergoing tests in Siberia. The truck is powered by two engines, each of 180 h.p., and has eightwheel drive. On both right and left, the wheels are powered from their own engine, and the truck can continue even if one engine fails. It is nearly 40 ft. long and can carry 10 tons.

International Competition for Glasgow : For the first time during the 14 years that the International Apprentice Competition has been running, the UK is this year the host nation, with Glasgow • the chosen centre. HRH the Duke of Edinburgh has consented to become patron. The competition, which is becoming known as the " Industrial Olympics ", will take place between July 17 and 29. Apprentices and trainees from 13 countries-12 of the most important industrial nations in Europe, and Japan—will compete for the gold, silver and bronze medals to be awarded in 29 classes.

E106,000 Trunk Road Scheme: Work is about to start on the construction of a 1-1mile by-pass of the Suffolk village of Woolpit, on the St. Neots-Ipswich trunk road (A45) between Bury St. Edmunds and Stowmarket. The scheme will cost about £106,000 and should be completed in 18 months. M4 Extension: The proposed route for a further 30 miles of the London-South Wales motorway (M4) in Gloucester and Wiltshire has been published as a draft scheme by the Minister of Transport. The route will run in a general north-easterly direction for some 20 miles from a point about mile south west of Tomarten in Gloucestershire to north of Wootton Bassett, and then in a general south-easterly direction for about 10 miles, passing just south of Swindon, to a point about a mile south east of Liddington in Wiltshire.
