THE Scottish Licensing Authority has met 400 members of the Road Haulage Association in Edinburgh and Glasgow in discussions aimed at improving vehicle maintenance. Further meetings are to be held in other parts of the country.
This was stated by Mr. A. R. Butt, RHA chairman, when he spoke at the annual dinner of the Glasgow and West Scotland sub-area last week-.
Mr. Butt said it was good to see that Mr. Robert Morrison, chairman of the Scottigh Commercial Motormen's Asso
ciation, made it dear in his address at the SCMU annual conference that in his opinion drivers were equally to blame with their employers for any breaches of the law in which they were concerned.
The national council of the RHA was to be asked on Thursday (yesterday) to decide on proposals for machinery to enable it to discuss labour questions with the unions. But any agreement, said Mr. Butt, would be useless unless unions could control their members; there was concern that unions could not even control their own district officers.
