A T a meeting of Forest of Dean tipper operators, held at Longhope on Monday, all haulage contractors who haul from quarries in the Forest of Dean area stated that they were not satisfied with rates at present being paid. They said they found that under existing rates' structures it was difficult to maintain and operate their vehicles as they would wish.
The operators decided unanimously to try to form committees in each individual quarry to meet the managements and to discuss all problems relating to their respective quarries, but especially the question of rates. They would never
theless prefer that collective negotiations took place immediately between the Road Haulage Association and representatives of all quarries in the area.
Similar views were expressed when the new Stoke Lane Tipper Group, which was formed last month, met to discuss the rates' position at the Mendip quarries. More than 60 operators agreed at a meeting last week to form four-man committees at all the quarries concerned. It was decided that when this had been done, an action committee would be formed to put the'hauliers' point of view collectively to the quarry owners in this district.
